About JEE & JEE Advanced

JEE is a highly prestigious engineering entrance exam in India conducted in two stages – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the first stage and serves as a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, and other engineering institutes across the country. The eligibility criteria include passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. JEE Main has three papers – Paper 1 for B.E./B. Tech, Paper 2 for B.Arch, and Paper 3 for B.Planning.

JEE Advanced is the second stage and is conducted by one of the IITs on a rotational basis. It is exclusively for the top 2.5 lakh rankers in JEE Main. The exam pattern consists of two compulsory papers. JEE Advanced paves the way for admissions to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other premier engineering institutes in India. The syllabus for both exams covers topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics based on the 10+2 curriculum. Exam Pattern

JEE Main: The exam consists of three papers – Paper 1 (for B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2 (for B.Arch), and Paper 3 (for B.Planning). Paper 1 is conducted in a computer-based test mode, and Paper 2 and 3 are conducted in a pen-and-paper-based mode. The exam pattern is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Selection Process

  • JEE Main: Based on the JEE Main scores, candidates are eligible for admission to various National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other engineering colleges. All India Ranks (AIRs) are used for seat allocation through the centralized counseling process conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
  • JEE Advanced: After clearing JEE Main, the top 2.5 lakh rankers become eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Based on their JEE Advanced ranks, candidates, can secure seats in the IITs and some other premier engineering institutes. The selection process for JEE Advanced involves counseling and seat allocation based on merit.
