About ICAR

ICAR, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Established on 16th July 1929 and formerly known as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, ICAR is headquartered in New Delhi. It oversees 101 institutes and 71 agricultural universities across India.

As the apex body for agriculture research and education, ICAR plays a vital role in coordinating, guiding, and managing research in agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, and animal sciences nationwide. The Union Minister of Agriculture serves as the ex-officio President of the ICAR Society, with Shri Narendra Singh Tomar currently holding the position.

The ‘ICAR Vision 2050’ serves as a strategic framework, fostering innovation-led inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth in the country. It outlines ambitious goals to drive advancements in the agricultural sector and contribute to the nation’s overall development.

Exam Pattern

The ICAR exam is conducted in an online and computer-based mode. It consists of 150 objective-type multiple-choice questions, available in both Hindi and English mediums. Each question carries 4 marks, totaling 600 marks for the entire paper. However, a penalty of 1 mark is applied for each incorrect answer.

Candidates are provided 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the examination. The questions are categorized into different streams:

  • Stream A (PCM): Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • Stream B (PCB): Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
  • Stream C (PCA): Physics, Chemistry, and Agriculture

Candidates must select the stream that corresponds to their preferred subjects for the exam.

Eligibility

ICAR Exam Eligibility for Undergraduates

Age

  • Candidates should have attained a minimum lower age of 16 years to be eligible for the ICAR-AIEEA UG.
  • There is no upper age limit, meaning candidates of any age can apply.

Education

  • Applicants must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • General and OBC candidates need to score a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their qualifying exam.
  • For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Physically Challenged categories, the minimum aggregate required is 40%.

ICAR Exam Eligibility for Postgraduate

Age

  • Candidates applying for the ICAR-AIEEA PG must be at least 19 years old to be eligible.
  • There is no upper age limit, allowing candidates of all ages to apply.

Education

  • Applicants must have completed their Undergraduate courses in any of the following patterns: 10+2+5, 10+2+4, 10+6, or 10+2+3.
  • General and OBC candidates must secure a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their UG course.
  • For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Physically Challenged categories, the minimum aggregate required is 50%.
  • Additionally, candidates applying for the M.V.Sc program must have completed their Bachelors in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, along with an internship.
